Before you sign, understand what you’re agreeing to
Infinity Legal reviews the document with you, explains what it means and what the risks are, and answers your questions. In person or virtually.
When people need ILA
-
A lender or another party requires it
Someone asked you to get independent legal advice and sign a certificate before they’ll go ahead.
-
You’re signing a guarantee
You’re agreeing to be responsible for someone else’s obligation.
-
You’re signing a mortgage or loan
You want to understand what the document says before you commit.
-
You’re signing another agreement
You’d like someone independent to explain it before you do.
What independent legal advice means
ILA should be more than a signature. We go through the document with you, explain what it does legally, and tell you the risks and your alternatives.
We confirm that you understand it and that you’re signing voluntarily. Where appropriate, we sign a Certificate of Independent Legal Advice.
What we do and what we don’t
What’s included
Reviewing the document with you
Answering your questions
Explaining the legal risks and alternatives
Confirming that you understand it and are signing voluntarily
A Certificate of Independent Legal Advice, where appropriate
What isn’t included
We aren’t retained to negotiate the agreement, investigate the underlying transaction, or give tax, accounting, financial, or investment advice. We don’t run searches or due diligence, and we don’t represent you in the transaction or in any later dispute unless we agree to that in writing.
How it works
Send us the document. Through the form, with a note about who asked you to sign it.
We book a time. In person or virtually.
We go through it together. You ask questions. We explain.
You decide. If a certificate is needed, we sign it.
Please have valid ID with you.
How fees work
Independent legal advice is $250 per hour. Before you pay a retainer, we’ll tell you how much time we expect your document to take, so you know the cost before we start.
“I never felt intimidated or like my questions were too much.”

Common questions
