Passed over, harassed, or pushed out at work?
Infinity Legal helps Ontario employees understand human rights claims for discrimination and harassment, and explains your options in plain language.
What this can look like
-
You were passed over
You were qualified for the role and someone else got it. You wonder whether who you are played a part.
-
You were harassed
Comments, jokes, or treatment that kept happening after you made it clear it wasn't okay.
-
You were pushed out
Your hours, duties, or support changed after you raised a concern or asked for accommodation.
-
You came back from leave and things changed
Medical leave or family leave, and your role or the way people treat you is different.
What human rights law covers at work
Employers in Ontario can't treat you differently because of grounds such as disability, race, gender, age, or family status. This applies to hiring, how you're treated on the job, and how employment ends.
You don't have to have lost your job to raise a human rights concern.
Not sure it counts?
You don't have to be certain before you ask.
Write down what happened, when, and who was there. Keep emails, messages, and anything in writing. Then tell us. We'll tell you where you stand.
How a claim works
You tell us what happened. Start wherever makes sense. We listen first.
We review the facts. That includes any documents or messages you have.
We explain your options. In plain language, with what we recommend and why.
You decide what comes next. We help you work out what a fair outcome looks like for you.
We will tell you where you stand. We can't promise a result, and we won't tell you that you have a claim until we've looked at the facts.
How fees work
Some human rights matters may be handled on a contingency fee, where appropriate. We'll explain how fees would work for your situation before you decide anything.
“I felt very much at ease with how Mr. Smith heard me during our meeting and showed empathy and understanding throughout as well.”

Common questions
-
Yes, you may be able to. Many concerns come up while someone is still employed.
-
Unfair treatment can be unfair without being a human rights issue. It becomes one when it's connected to a protected ground, such as your disability or your age. A review helps sort that out.
-
No. Bring what you have. If something is missing, we'll tell you what would help.
